Humidifier, dehumidifier, visitor’s breathing

In a room a humidifier is programmed to increase the humidity in the air, while a dehumidifier absorbs water to decrease the humidity. A balance is created between two machines with opposite functions. By breathing, the visitor participates in this balance.

All these objects are intermined in a soundpiece coming out of an iPhone charging on the floor. In this piece, a woman speaks about the exhibition in a subjective way, deporting from vague explanations about the project given months before the opening. This perspective is confronted to the actual exhibition. In a way, information is transmitted and shaped orally.

Untitled (Yvan), 2018
Crochet blanket, found objects
36 x 200 x 200 cm

Pursuing the idea of collection of objects, Yvan called the fifty-two ‘Yvan’ living in Geneva and listed on the telephone directory. After a short conversation in which he explained the context and purpose of his call, Yvan asked them to think about an abject that they could give him. Then he placed their gift under a handmade crochet blanket. The objects themselves did not matter, he only gave the audience the opportunity to guess their shape through the mesh. The experience is passed on from one Yvan to another, and the name eventually became anonymous because it included all the protagonists. This community property established its own subjective criteria (name and geographic location), hence bypassing a familial, social and political model and replacing it with a nominal system.
