Swiss military rifle M-1911 enclosed in a crochet case, sack truck
120 x 40 x 30 cm
This is a 1911 infantry rifle, called M-1911, introduced into the Swiss army from 1914 to 1915. At the time, Swiss soldiers could keep their weapons at the end of their service as a souvenir. Nowadays, the weapon can be kept only under some conditions. This rifle was given by a Swiss man to my father who is a Spanish immigrant. He then passed it on to me. I later crocheted a kind of sheath, with a knitting technique passed on from woman to woman in my family. The sack truck, which belonged to a moving company, is both a base and an integral part of the work, reinforcing its mobile and in-between status.
